Yao Mein Embroidery Panel
Two trouser panels done in intricate cross stitch on indigo dyed handwoven cotton base with cotton thread. These are older panels purchased in a Yao village in Northern Thailand in 1996. The pieces reflect work done in the first half of the 20th century. The stitching is very fine and uniform in traditional colors. The reverse sides of these panels is nearly identical to the front, a testimony to the embroiderer's skill. 27 inches by 19 inches.
